William Norberg MD native of Barnum MN, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with BS, MD, and Post Graduate Specialty in Pediatrics and Subspecialty in Pediatric Cardiology.

He was a pioneer in Critical Care. The Certification in Pediatric Critical Care was awarded in the Initial Board Certification in Pediatric Critical Care created for the new specialty.

He provided direct bedside Critical Care services, PICU administration and Pediatric Cardiac Care. He maintained academic affiliation throughout his entire career. He served as President of the Midwest Cardiology Society and was a Founder of the Pediatric Transport section of the American Association of Pediatrics.

He received International acclaim for the rescue and resuscitation of a child who had been under the ice in a flowing river for over 45 minutes. The patient was discharged normal in 10 days with full return to his usual functioning self.

This was the first of the 911 rescue program vignettes. This was the first of reality TV productions. This vignette is currently available on YouTube as "Icy River 911".

He has published multiple papers on a wide range of medical subjects.

His academic career included staff positions at University of North Dakota, University of Minnesota, University of Texas San Antonio, University of Colorado, University of South Florida and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

He developed Children’s Hospital MeritCare in Fargo ND. He developed the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Methodist Hospital San Antonio Texas. He was involved in the development of the Pediatric Cardiac Unit at Denver Children’s Hospital. He was instrumental in developing Pediatric Intensive Care Services in South Texas.

He retired after 53 years of providing Critical Care Services when the Covid epidemic disrupted the world of organized Medicine.

He is now involved in scientific writing, publishing and other medically related writing.
